Brian is a fellow of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, Chartered Environmentalist and is recognised by the International Solid Waste Association as an International Waste Manager. Brian is responsible for project direction and management, business development and technical delivery across a range of resource efficiency areas for Ricardo Energy and Environment. He was voted 31st in this year’s Legends of Waste in Resource’s Hot 100, the list of the top influencers in the resources and waste industry.

Brian has specific experience within the organics field from establishing Local Authority food and green waste collection systems to providing technical support on the procurement of treatment technologies from Windrow to Anaerobic Digestion. In particular, he was the technical lead for two procurement hubs in Wales, who were supported by the Assembly Government to procure DBF contracts where AD technology was the prime technology to be adopted for processing the hubs’ food waste

Brian is also the co-author of an Anaerobic Digestion Training Toolkit and Guide commissioned by the Global Methane Initiative. The toolkit (interactive slide deck) takes viewers (municipalities and project developers) through the key areas to consider when developing an AD project and explains why they might benefit from AD.

Brian has prepared a guidance document, commissioned by Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS), for Local Authorities procuring food waste treatment services. He is presently working with a number of organisations on a diverse range of projects for ZWS including micro AD, mushroom farming and low carbon food waste collection services.

He has also delivered papers and presentations on the solutions to barriers identified in the development of food waste treatment facilities for CIWM, LARAC & ICE.
