Leading biogas plant builder Anaergia to showcase solutions for optimising AD process

Stand B107, World Biogas Expo 2022, NEC, Birmingham, 15-16 June

Anaergia builds, refurbishes, operates and maintains anaerobic digestion plants and organic treatment facilities across the UK, turning waste into energy, water and fertiliser. With Anaergia equipment installed at more than 1,700 sites globally – including recent projects at the Levenseat Co-Mingled Waste Separation Facility in Lanarkshire and the EQTEC Deeside RDF plant – the company will use its return to the World Biogas Expo in June to highlight its class-leading expertise, including its unique mixing and separation technologies for optimising the AD process.

“As experts in building, operating, upgrading and maintaining AD plants, we look forward to demonstrating our entire service offering to World Biogas Expo visitors, including our range of systems for mixing and separating applications, both of which are essential to successful AD operation,” says Anergia UK’s Business Development Director, Simon Christian. “Thorough mixing of feedstock is required during the feeding and digestion stages, for example, while separating solid and liquid fractions of digestate is often required at the end of the process.”

Energy-efficient mixing

Anaergia’s innovative PSM range of submersible mixers combines a gearless direct drive with a dynamic controller to produce a mixer system capable of CO2 and electricity savings of up to 50% compared to other technologies. Despite an average power input of just 8-12.5kW, the motor is capable of producing up to 800Nm of torque, even at speeds as low as 80 rpm – meaning floating layers and high-solids contents are easily handled. The use of a permanent synchronous magnet (PSM) motor also means there is no requirement for a gearbox, increasing service life and reducing maintenance costs.

At the same time, the company’s comprehensive range of Service Box units allows for the easy inspection and adjustment of mixers (both the Anaergia PSM range and third-party models) at any time, while patented gas lock seals enable safe maintenance on-site without fear of methane emissions.

Consistent separation performance

For high percentage solid recovery, the Anaergia Sludge Screw Dewaterer (SSD) offers an optimal solution for dewatering sludge, manure and digestate in municipal and industrial applications. Delivering quiet, energy-efficient, continuous operation, the SSD can be adapted to suit a wide range of materials, making it a perfect choice for plants of all sizes.

Anaergia will also highlight the company’s Filter Screw Press (FSP) separators that deliver consistently high separation and throughput performance with a very long service life. Of particular benefit to many AD operators is the integrated fibre cutting function, which reduces clogging by preventing long fibrous material from entering the screen region.

“Our range of separators are easy to install and maintain, making them equally suited to both new projects and as replacement or upgrade units in existing biogas plants,” says Simon. “To learn more about our comprehensive range of mixing and separating technology, or to discuss any aspect of plant development, refurbishment or maintenance, stop by stand B107 at the World Biogas Expo on 15-16 June and speak to one of our AD experts.”
