Orege Accelerates Its Strategic Transformation with Launch of Orege Green Gas Solution

Orege announces the commercial launch of Orege Green Gas, an innovative pre-treatment solution that maximizes biogas production in municipal wastewater treatment plants equipped with digesters — with no upfront investment required from local authorities.

In line with the evolution of its strategy toward services , while maintaining its equipment sales activity, Orege takes a significant step forward with Orege Green Gas.

Based on its proprietary SLG® (Solid-Liquid-Gas) technology, this compact, mobile, and chemical-free unit significantly improves the energy performance of existing facilities by addressing a critical yet often overlooked link: the quality of sludge fed into digesters.

Orege Green Gas brand encompasses both mobile service offerings and equipment sales dedicated to sludge pre-treatment prior to anaerobic digestion, in a logic of energy recovery.

“With Orege Green Gas, we help municipalities transform underperforming digesters into profitable energy assets — with no investment, in just a few days,” says Xavier Wagner, CEO.

Concrete Answer to Current Limits of Anaerobic Digestion

Despite major investments in anaerobic digestion, many municipal plants are struggling to achieve expected yields. Others are overloaded and forced to consider building additional digesters.

The cause: sludge that is too diluted and poorly digestible, limiting digester potential.

Orege Green Gas acts upstream in the process, delivering a dual benefit:

  • Sludge conditioning: improved floc structure and biodegradability
  • Efficient thickening: increasing dry solids content from 2–3% to 6–8%

All without chemical conditioning agents, without heat, and without heavy labor.

 Observed On-Site Results:

  • Up to +40% increase in biogas production
  • 20–40% polymer savings
  • Reduced sludge transport volumes
  • Better digester stability

Orege Green Gas achieves performance levels comparable to thermal hydrolysis (THP), but without its technical complexity or cost

Service Model with No Investment, Aligned with Public Sector Constraints

Aligned with budget limitations of public decision-makers, the solution is offered as a rental-based mobile service, enabling:

  • Rapid startup with no initial investment
  • Industrial-scale validation
  • Visible results within a few days

For municipalities wishing to purchase the equipment, a fixed version is also available for direct sale, either immediately or following the demo phase.

To date, 9 Orege Green Gas units have been deployed at 6 sites in Europe:

3 sites in the UK, 2 sites in Italy and 1 pilot site in France to be tested in 2025, in the form of fixed installations or mobile services depending on local configurations.

Considerable Market Potential

In Europe, there are over 1,500 municipal wastewater plants with digesters, of which less than 10% benefit from advanced pretreatment.

In the United States, this rate falls to less than 8%, while over 1,200 municipal plants are already producing biogas.

Orège Green Gas solution specifically targets these already-equipped but under-optimized facilities, where a +25% to +40% gain in production can be achieved without major infrastructure modifications.

Initial Agricultural Trials to Enter a Promising New Market

While commercial deployment currently focuses on municipal wastewater plants, where results are already promising, Orege is also conducting validation tests to adapt its technology to livestock effluent treatment for agricultural anaerobic digestion.

These effluents have different physico-chemical properties from urban sludge and require a tailored solution.

The demonstration phase aims to confirm technical feasibility and operational effectiveness in agricultural settings with their own specific operating constraints

Commercial Rollout Underway in 2025

The official launch will be supported by an active presence at key European industry trade shows in 2025, followed by US deployment starting in 2026:

  • World Biogas Expo (Birmingham, July)
  • Pollutec (Lyon, October)
  • European Biosolids & Bioresources Conference (Manchester, November)
  • Ecomondo (Rimini, November)
