2019 Event Highlights!

THANK YOU to all of those who joined us at this year’s trade show, featuring the inaugural World Biogas Summit alongside the traditional UK AD and World Biogas Expo and AD and Biogas Industry Awards.  Attendance was up 8% on last year and we have received terrific feedback from delegates, exhibitors and speakers.

Check out  some of the highlights below.  We hope to see you next year 1st-2nd July 2020!

A MOST PRODUCTIVE TIME FOR ATTENDEES AT EXPO 2019

The five new dedicated theatres and opened-up show floor promoted both topic-focus and great interaction between visitors, speakers and exhibitors.  Packed seminars, stunning displays, business deals and great networking offered a tremendous experience for all visitors at this year’s event.

Learning, sharing and discovering
The Engine Room (left) was continuously full, with operators gaining invaluable insights into the nuts and bolts of operating an AD Plant.  The Future Farming theatre also proved extremely popular, providing advice on diversifying income and best on-farm AD practice, whilst there were also great sessions at the Circular Cities and Food Waste and Water theatres.  CHN Industrial/New Holland Agriculture also received a lot of attention from visitors around their revolutionary methane -powered tractor (below).

GEN-C wins deals at the trade show
Gas engine support supplier Gen-C had a particularly productive time at UK AD and World Biogas Expo, securing two major deals for a 250kW CHP engine on Day 1 and a Motortech control panel featuring ComAp technology on Day 2.“The visitors didn’t stop coming creating a real buzz on our stand”, said GEN-C’s MD James Thompson. ” It was great to catch up with so many familiar faces, as well as make new contacts, but the icing on the cake for us was securing a major sale on each day.”Read their press release here.
I have been to most of the ADBA shows and spent two days this year visiting old friends and new stands. The quality of the conversations I had this year was the best yet”.  Dr Les Gornall, Process Consultant, PM PROjEN

BIOGAS TAKES ITS PLACE ON THE CLIMATE CHANGE AGENDA

The role that biogas can play in addressing the climate emergency that we face was at the forefront of the debates at the inaugural World Biogas Summit.  In his keynote address, Niclas Svenningsen (pictured), of UN Climate Change, the UNFCCC Secretariat, highlighted how biogas can help countries meet their Paris Agreement commitments: “There is a tremendous potential for biogas to be a significant building block in the climate and energy plans for the UK, EU and the world,” he said. “It has all the features of the next generation technology and is a win-win-win-win-win industry” – Read full press release.

Presenting their latest report on Climate Mitigation and Land, Dr Joana Portugal-Pereira, Senior Scientist at the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change WGIII, also called for the biogas industry to engage with their research and submit scientific papers demonstrating the value of anaerobic digestion and biogas technology.

Insights from around the world

Over the two days of discussions, delegates heard case studies from all around the world showcasing industry successes in deploying game-changing solutions to energy generation, clean transport and food waste recycling, as well as a review of the market mechanisms needed to stimulate growth.

The World Biogas Summit saw the launch of the latest report from the World Biogas Association (WBA)  on the Global Potential of Biogas.  The report highlights the potential of AD to generate renewable energy, abate GHG emissions, recover organic nutrients and carbon for use on soil, and help meet climate change targets under the Paris Agreement.
